ST - Beginner Medical Retina
The ST - Beginner Medical Retina programme at Susrut Eye Foundation & Research Centre is designed for practicing ophthalmologists looking to formalize and sharpen existing skills who want to build genuine, hands-on competence in National rather than just theoretical familiarity. The curriculum moves deliberately from wet-lab simulation to supervised live cases, with faculty grading each trainee against the ICO-OSCAR checklist at every stage so progress is measured, not assumed. The goal isn't just exposure to National techniques, but a level of comfort and judgement that only comes from repeated, supervised practice with honest feedback after every attempt. The programme is delivered at Susrut's own dedicated wet-lab facility, with real operating microscopes and simulation kits rather than shared or improvised equipment, so the practice environment matches an actual operating room as closely as possible.

What you will learn?
1st week:
Steps Surgery under 1:1 direct supervision with extensive Wet Lab Practice, ICO-OSCAR scoring, Video Discussion, Theory.
2nd week:
Surgery under 1:1 direct supervision with Wet Lab Practice, ICO-OSCAR scoring, Video Discussion, Theory, Phaco Machine Orientation.
3rd & 4th week:
Independent surgery under 1:1 direct supervision with Wet Lab Practice, ICO-OSCAR scoring, Video Discussion, Theory, Phaco Dynamics, Roll Play.
Ongoing:
Basics of Phaco technique with adequate exposure to phaco.

Eligibility Criteria
- ➜A valid medical registration in ophthalmology (or the relevant allied field) is required before enrollment.
- ➜Seats are limited per batch to keep the trainer-to-trainee ratio low enough for genuine 1:1 supervision.
- ➜Candidates from other countries are also eligible, subject to fulfilling the procedural formalities of the Medical Council of India.

- ➜The SUSRUT training system has produced more than a thousand trained ophthalmologists across India and abroad, many of whom now train others using the same structured method.
- ➜Every batch is assessed against the ICO-OSCAR international scoring standard, so a trainee's progress is comparable across cohorts, not just self-reported.
